The Winter Survival Kit: Saffron Silk and the Art of the “Plush” Wake-Up

Kama Ayurveda Kumkumadi Rich Balm and Facial Oil laid out on a wooden surface in the sunlight

    Hello, readers!

Is it just me, or has the temperature in London decided to do a free-fall this week? I stepped outside this morning and felt that immediate zing of frost: the kind that makes you want to retreat back under the duvet and stay there until April.

While I’m all for cozy knits and oversized scarves, my skin usually has a very different reaction to the cold. It doesn’t just get dry; it goes into a full-on “survival mode” sulk. If I’m not careful, I wake up feeling like a piece of parchment.

But I’ve found my winter MVPs, and honestly? They are far too good to keep to myself.

    The Saffron Secret

Over the years I’ve definitely leaned into a more “Quiet Luxury” approach to my lifestyle, self care and beauty regimen (as you might have seen on my Instagram), and Kama Ayurveda has stolen the show. Specifically, their Kumkumadi range.

If you haven’t tried Kama Ayurveda Kumkumadi before, let me tell you: it’s like liquid gold. When it gets cold, I have a two-step ritual that feels like wrapping my face in a cashmere blanket:

    1. The Saffron Silk: I start with three drops of the Youth Revitalising Facial Oil. It’s infused with saffron, and it gives that deep collagen boost and glow that we, mature ladies, crave. It feels like silk on the skin, not greasy, just… expensive.
    2. The Lockdown: Then, I slather on the Kumkumadi Night Balm. You can see from my photos how well-used mine is! I bought it at least a year ago and I reach out to it every time my skin needs that extra cushion of comfort. It’s thick, rich, and creates a barrier that locks all that goodness in.

    More Than Just Skincare

I always say that beauty should be a sensory treat, otherwise, it’s just another chore on the list. The scent of these two together? It is absolutely SENSUAL. It’s earthy, rich and calming, the perfect “end of the day” signal to my brain that it’s time to switch off.

Instead of waking up with that tight, uncomfortable feeling, I’m waking up with skin that feels plush, radiant, hydrated and ready to face the wind (even if the rest of me isn’t) 🤣.

    What About You?

How are you adjusting your routine for this sudden cold snap? Are you a “oil-first” kind of person, or do you have a heavy-duty balm you swear by?

Let’s swap winter survival tips in the comments, I’m always looking for an excuse to try something new and “bougie”!

    Stay warm and stay glowing,

    Natalie x
